STATE OF THE ARTS (Oct 31 to Nov 6) Organisers take stock of the previous week’s big events, with pleasant news in the numbers game — the National Museum of Singapore’s exhibition of Musee d’Orsay masterpieces has already attracted a very healthy 9,000 visitors since it opened, while the Singapore Writers Festival 2011 recorded a 13,500-strong crowd to the nine-day event. (UPDATE: Not to be outdone, ArtScience Museum’s Titanic exhibition drew 18,5000 on its first 10 days.) Meanwhile, the music scene gets a boost as lifestyle group FJ Benjamin announced it’ll be donating S$150,000 in bursaries for music education over the next three years, while the Malay Heritage Centre announces plans to beef up the place, including turning its auditorium into a performance space and an exhibition focus on Kampong Glam.
