State of the Arts! November 2011! Week 1!
STATE OF THE ARTS (Oct 31 to Nov 6)
Organisers take stock of the previous week’s big events, with pleasant news in the numbers game — the National Museum of Singapore’s exhibition of Musee d’Orsay masterpieces has already attracted a very healthy 9,000 visitors since it opened, while the Singapore Writers Festival 2011 recorded a 13,500-strong crowd to the nine-day event. (UPDATE: Not to be outdone, ArtScience Museum’s Titanic exhibition drew 18,5000 on its first 10 days.) Meanwhile, the music scene gets a boost as lifestyle group FJ Benjamin announced it’ll be donating S$150,000 in bursaries for music education over the next three years, while the Malay Heritage Centre announces plans to beef up the place, including turning its auditorium into a performance space and an exhibition focus on Kampong Glam.
