STATE OF THE ARTS (Sept 26 to Oct 2)
The 15 finalists for the APB Foundation Signature Art Prize was announced, with Michael Lee, one of seven Singaporeans nominated, still in the running for the regional tilt for his work Second-Hand City. Meanwhile, the Media Development Authority will streamline its funding schemes from the previously confusing 46 to a simpler five grant schemes across broadcast, animation, film, music, interactive media, games and publishing. The National Arts Council conferred its annual Arts Supporter and the Patron Of The Arts Awards to 249 individuals and groups to acknowledge their sponsorship support of the arts scene last year, which saw some S$26.6 million pledged and 63 first-time sponsors.
Cultural Medallion recipient Jeremy Monteiro is opening his own jazz school, while museum-lovers can welcome another one with Resorts World Sentosa’s new Maritime Experiential Museum come Oct 15. The Arts and Culture Strategic Review committee held two public forums to gather more feedback while an open-house event over the weekend saw audiences checking out the artworks at the 12 new Circle Line stations.
