Sept 10 to 16 Two things inevitably stood out in what was a truly eventful week. Monday marked the 10th death anniversary of Kuo Pao Kun and a 24-hour event at the Substation (which celebrated its own 22nd foundation anniversary yesterday) kicked off a a number of events that included an international conference and an exhibition at the National Museum Of Singapore. The weekend also saw the official opening of the commercial arts enclave Gillman Barracks, with 13 new galleries opening its doors to much fanfare. Elsewhere, Minister for Information, Communications And The Arts Dr Yaacob Ibrahim reiterated the reasons for Singapore’s pullout from the 2013 Venice Biennale, and over in London, filmmaker Sherman Ong screened his film as part of a commissioned film series relating to installation artist Olafur Eliasson’s Little Sun exhibition at Tate Modern.
