SINGAPORE — The Republic’s Indian business community plays a key role in strengthening the nation’s ties with India, where growth opportunities are fast emerging, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said today (Sept 26) during the 90th anniversary dinner of the Singapore Indian Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SICCI).
India’s potential is underpinned by its massive domestic market and young workforce, Mr Lee said, and Indian businesses in Singapore are well positioned to ride that growth. These comments come as Singapore and India continue to grow bilateral trade and political relations, with the Republic being India’s top investor currently.
Meanwhile, the Indian business community in Singapore now has over 6,000 companies, including some 800 members of the SICCI.
Commending on SICCI support for local businesses, Mr Lee noted that the Chamber’s SME Centre has assisted over 3,500 SMEs annually since 2008, including support for their expansion in the African and Middle East markets
