SINGAPORE - The 1975 is a self-titled debut album released by the English alternative indie rock band. They’ve released four EPs, and oddly enough, fans appear to love the tracks - even if they don’t understand a word lead singer Matthew Healy is singing, proving once again how music does transcend all boundaries.

Just one look at the list of songs and you’ll find that the band The 1975 is quite in-your-face. But while the band is bold with their track titles (Sex and Menswear, anyone?), the songs themselves don’t quite pack a punch. Thankfully, there are a couple of gems: The City really shows off what The 1975 is good at – powerful drums, Healy’s unique vocals and personal lyrics that only he could fully comprehend – but still hook you in all the same.

Chocolate is a funky indie rock track that’s probably best heard while taking a long, quiet drive at night. Healy has an attractive and unconventional way of executing the melody, which would probably sound completely different if it was sung by someone else.

Still, while The 1975’s eponymous effort was highly anticipated, the band didn’t bring anything new to the table and it fails to impress.
