933 DJ Lim Peifen’s has an inner bridezilla

For a bride-to-be, MediaCorp Radio Y.E.S. 93.3 DJ Lim Peifen is pretty calm. We say pretty calm because she candidly shared that she still has “quite a lot to settle” for the big day happening on Saturday. That includes doing up the itinerary for the day’s events, finishing up her wedding video, hounding her parents for the relatives’ seating arrangements, finalising the details with her wedding decorator and dealing with a small outbreak of zits.

We’d be freaking out at this stage. Not her. She has it all under control. Mostly — because she later turned to us earnestly to say: “I really want to get a wedding planner to manage the day’s flow (of activities), but I think I’m in too deep. It’ll be hard to hand over everything now, right? Right?”

Q: Congrats on your big day! Are you nervous about it?

A: In a way. I’m worried about the day itself, whether there’ll be something that I’ve forgotten to do. I’m also worried that I won’t be able to enjoy myself then. And I’m nervous that I’d be late for the church ceremony.

Q: But you don’t sound like you’re stressed about it.

A: I am! I’ve been stressed over work as well, and I was getting Star Awards confused with my wedding as they both require fittings and make-up trials. I think it’s because I have been too relaxed about the whole thing in the beginning. I realised early this year that my fiance and I haven’t done much besides booking our hotel (for the wedding dinner) and going to Korea to take our pre-wedding shots even though we got engaged last March. We only got into action after Chinese New Year and sent out the invites last month. I had to plead with the cake shop to rush my orders for the Guo Da Li (betrothal) cakes because we were so late. Thankfully, they obliged because it wasn’t a big order.

Q: Have you had any Bridezilla moments or meltdowns over the wedding yet?

A: I had my share of outbursts where I went: “This is so troublesome, I don’t want to get married any more!”, but nah, no real meltdowns or crazy behaviour. I did have a nightmare about the right shoes because I realised I was too late to have them custom-made. But for things like flowers and the gown, I’m not particular as long as they meet my general requests. I have no idea what sort of flowers I’m getting and I trust my friend, Shirley (Li), from Flamingo Bridal. I simply gave her a picture of the gown I like and said: “Something like that.”

Q: Is there anything that you’re particular about for your wedding?

A: Music! I won’t be playing A Thousand Years. (Laughs) I did up a play-list of about 20 songs and gave it to my wedding band (local musicians) Jack and Rai to pick from there. Yeah, only songs from there. I’m also rather fussy about the decor and the look of the wedding. My theme is vintage whimsical and I want my cats to be incorporated. Oh, and the words of the wedding invitation. I was very fussy with them and went back and forth with the designer at least five times.

Q: That’s not so bad. Do you make a conscious effort not to be a Bridezilla?

A: Yeah. I’ve heard stories about how friendships are ruined because of it. Whenever I feel myself boiling over, I tell myself I shouldn’t because it’s a happy occasion. I’m impatient and the type to imagine the worst. Luckily my fiance is very calm. And he’s a big help — he’ll follow up on the wedding emails and take care of whatever I missed out. He’s very meticulous because he’s a computer engineer. (Laughs)
