SINGAPORE — Member of Parliament Baey Yam Keng will take to the stage in a new play by theatre group The ETCeteras titled Like Me. I Like.
The light-hearted comedy, which will be staged in December, puts the spotlight on society’s obsession with social media and its impact on the way people interact on a day-to-day basis.
Baey will take on the lead role of a romantic blogger named Wen Yao. Joining him are showbiz veteran, DJ and host Foong Wai See, Y.E.S. 93.3FM DJ Chung Kun Hua, among others. Music icon Dick Lee will be stepping in as the production’s image stylist.
The play was written and directed by Lim Hai Yen, Baey’s wife and artistic director of The ETCeteras, of which Baey is a founding president and producer. The group’s last production was 2010’s parody The Cabinet, which cheekily had characters like PM, SM and MM — Production Manager, Stage Manager and Marketing Manager.
Set in an advertising firm, Like Me. I Like spins a heart-warming story revolving around social media platforms and how courage and love (even bro-mance), friendships, secrets, desires and rivalries flourish at work. It is also a fund-raising production, with all proceeds going to Tampines North CCC Community Development & Welfare Fund and Hwa Chong Junior College Alumni Students Bursary Fund.
Like Me. I Like runs from Dec 4 to 7. Tickets from S$35 to s$88 at SISTIC.
