SINGAPORE — The joint Screen Singapore and Asian TV Forum & Market rolled into town, accompanied by the announcement of the return of the Singapore International Film Festival next year after a two-year hiatus, with former film fest co-director Yuni Hadi returning as festival director. There was also the President’s Design Award, with six recipients of the Designer Of The Year accolade and nine for Design Of The Year. Contemporary dance festival Contact 2013 wrapped up. Independent bookstore BooksActually celebrated its eighth year, while the Singapore Writers Festival announced poet Paul Muldoon and sci-fi author Stephen Baxter as participants next year. Playwright Quah Sy Ren launched a new book, Scenes: A Hundred Years Of Singapore Chinese Language Theatre 1913-2013. Meanwhile, a poetry-driven fundraising for victims of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines was followed by another similar event, this time by visual artists connected with the Nanyang Academy Of Fine Arts. The fundraising art exhibition Move On included 50 participating artists. MAYO MARTIN
