State of the Arts: March 4 to 11
SINGAPORE — Two festivals kicked off — The Design Society Festival and the NUS Arts Festival. A documentary on the late Cultural Medallion recipient Chua Ek Kay was launched, while Singapore Tyler Print Institute made its presence felt at New York’s The Armory Show for the second straight year. Meanwhile, film-makers Ray Pang and Christina Choo’s short films have been selected for the Short Film Corner section of Cannes Film Festival in May. And finally, Minister for Communications and Information Yaacob Ibrahim announced plans for a new co-regulatory scheme for the arts, where groups will be able to self-classify performances under two-tiers: Those that fall under a “General” rating and those up to “R18”.
