SINGAPORE — Fancy discovering the ins and outs of the art world? Maybe it’s time to join a club.

And here’s how you can: Gillman Barracks’ latest addition, Yeo Workshop, has launched the Arnoldii Arts Club, which will be offering arts-related evening classes beginning on Sept 18.

The classes will be on topics related to the art market, art history and art production. Other than Audrey Yeo, director and curator of Yeo Workshop, lecturers include multimedia artist Edward Clydesdale Thomson, whose works are currently on show at the gallery; as well as art lawyer Henry Lydiate and art dealer and gallerist Stephen Lazarides, who is known for helping kick-start urban artist Banksy’s career.

Other speakers include Phil Wittaker, former director of Sotheby’s Institute Of Art Singapore; Equator Art Projects curator Tony Godfrey, ShanghART Gallery Singapore director Xue Liqing, Singaporean curator Louis Ho, conservator Steven Yip and artist Joel Yuen.

Why set up this gallery-club hybrid? “The market was ripe for it,” explained Yeo, who was previously based in London as director of Galerie8.

The idea was to focus on a burgeoning group of young, affluent collectors and the art club’s format is similar to exclusive associations like theTate Young Patrons group. Those who sign up for the classes — priced from S$170 per person per class, to S$6,500 for the full programme — can choose between the professional and patron tracks. Excursions to the Venice Biennale, London Frieze and Singapore Biennale are also lined up. Mayo Martin

The Arnoldii Arts Club is now open for registration. For more information, visit http://www.arnoldiiartsclub.com/. Yeo Workshop is located at Gillman Barracks. 1 Lock Road (http://www.yeoworkshop.com).
