SINGAPORE – Local television actress Rui En is assisting the police with investigations, after a car she was driving hit a stationary motorcycle at a carpark in Clementi on Tuesday afternoon (April 12).
In a statement, the actress’ management company Hype Records said she was “involved in an unfortunate incident...due to some misjudgement”.
The statement did not address allegations of drink-driving that were reported by multiple media outlets on Wednesday.
The police confirmed that an accident involving a car and a stationary motorcycle was reported at a carpark near Block 331 Clementi Avenue 2 on Tuesday at about 4.16pm.
A 35-year-old female driver was “currently assisting with investigations”, the police added without naming the actress.
Mediacorp, in a separate statement, said: “The police are investigating. We will wait for the facts to emerge.”
According to the statement from Rui En’s management company, the accident took place around 4.10pm on Tuesday as the actress was returning home.
She drove into the car park near Block 331, and subsequently knocked over a stationary motorcycle.
“No one was hit in the accident,” the statement said. The owner of the motorcycle reported the incident to the police.
Rui En, who will star in the upcoming police drama C.L.I.F. 4, is nominated for Best Actress at this year’s Star Awards for her role in The Dream Makers 2. She is also set to receive the All Time Favourite Artiste Award at Star Awards Show 1 this Sunday (April 17).
Speaking to TODAY, Peh Xinyi, president of Rui En’s fan club RBKD, said that fans have expressed concerns about the incident.
“It is (important) that we do not pass any judgment or conclusion before the investigations are completed, before we hear from both parties,” she said, adding that she was glad no one was hurt in the incident.
