SINGAPORE - If you haven’t heard of the Tedeschi Trucks Band, it’s about time you have. This 11-member band is led by husband and wife, Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi, and their respective solo bands, making them one mighty force to be reckoned with.
After their debut album, Revelator, won the Grammy Award for Best Blues Album, they retained their feel-good blues-rock tunes in their second studio album Made Up Mind. The album features 11 tracks that sounds as enlivening as their previous album, if not even better.
The song, Made Up Mind, trudges along with an addictive groovy tune, where a mix of guitars, piano, drums, saxophone, trumpet, trombone and bass all roll into one track, showing off Tedeschi’s raw voice, Trucks’ crazy guitar solo, and what the TTB is made of. Other tracks like Misunderstood hint at the familiar sound that the TTB is known for. They even go so far as to sprinkle it with a little bit of funk, making the track sound fuller, funkier and livelier.
Although all 11 tracks have that likable and unique “TTB” sound to them (and almost all are catchy too), there is one track that is begging to be put in a spotlight: Part Of Me is definitely one of my personal favourites. Tedeschi said “it reminds me of a Motown hit”, and I agree completely. The fun, laid-back melody is laced with Tedeschi’s strong gutsy vocals, and joined with multi-talented Saunders Sermons uniquely high vocal. Together, they make the chorus of Part Of Me the epitome of catchy, practically forcing one to sing along.
Made Up Mind is sure to bring out the groovy side of you with their sweet blues-rock tunes.
