Ah Boys tops box office

SINGAPORE — Director Jack Neo’s latest movie, Ah Boys To Men, took the No 1 spot at the local box office, securing the biggest opening weekend ever for a local movie. Starring veterans Richard Low and Irene Ang alongside newcomer Joshua Tan, it collected an impressive S$1,509,422 (from Nov 8 to 11). The movie, which is split into two parts, with Part 2 opening on Feb 7, 2013, beat the old record held by Ah Long Pte Ltd (S$1.484 million) in 2008.

In keeping with an encouraging run of local movies, Watch Local, the two-month-long initiative of the Singapore Film Commission (SFC), along with industry partners, to drive local appreciation of Singapore-made films will continue showcasing some of the rarer Singapore films.

From Nov 16 to 25, Where The Road Meets The Sun and 9:30, both by award-winning film-maker Yong Mun Chee, will be making their theatrical debuts in Frame x Frame, a quarterly programme presented by The Arts House with the support of the SFC.
