Hong Kong superstar Andy Lau is so interested in collaborating with Singaporean film-makers that he is willing to waive his actor’s fee in exchange for a share in the film’s equity.
“Many people think Andy Lau is so busy or that my fee is really high,” the 52-year-old actor, singer and film producer told TODAY during an interview at Marina Bay Sands, where he was promoting his new movie Firestorm yesterday.
“Perhaps I am really quite expensive, but hey I’m worth it!” he quipped. “Or else I wouldn’t be in so many films right?”
“But seriously, I’m very interested in working with Singapore films. I think no matter if it’s a big or small (project), or even if you don’t ask me to act in it, I’m more than happy to come in as a producer. I believe in slowly building up the film industry. It won’t happen overnight. And it’s not luck. It’s growth.”
Firestorm, which stars Mr Lau alongside actor Gordon Lam, is the opening film for ScreenSingapore. GENEVIEVE LOH
