Alert the tabloids: Twilight Saga franchise star Robert Pattinson was spotted hugging an Asian chick at the Four Seasons in Beverly Hills — with off-screen on-screen love Kristen Stewart in the next room!

Oh wait, that’s just yours truly posing for a photo with a very obliging Rob (as he likes to be called) right after our TV interview. Silly me.

Then again, such is the paparazzi-filled, gossip-mongered life of R-Patz (as practically everyone else likes to call him), the 26-year-old king of that little vampire book-to-film franchise you may or may not have heard of.

But the former model and Harry Potter supporting actor (Hello, Cedric Diggory!) and current Mr Perfectly Undead — as author Stephanie Meyer’s Byronic romantic vampire Edward Cullen — is more than used to salacious rumours, whether they are true or not. One of the most sought-after men on the planet just went through a very public scandal with his suddenly exposed and cheating girlfriend and co-star K-Stew, who did stew before profusely apologising to the public — and declaring her love for him.

And from what I’ve seen during the press rounds, it sure looks like he’s forgiven her. So, yes, legions of Rob fans, you should also forgive her.

And yours truly, too, for my own momentary weakness as the very last person to have a chat with him on that hectic promo trip for Breaking Dawn Part 2.

“Sure thing,” R-Patz immediately said when I requested a photo, to the annoyance of his minder.

“But let me warn you first, I stink!” he continued with a laugh. He’s talking about sitting in the spotlight all day long answering the same questions 18 different ways and and his obvious cigarette habit (he was puffing on one of those Nicorette sticks when I first walked into the interview room).

“But you don’t mind do you?” He laughed again.

As I’ve said before — and I reiterate in full awareness of the dangers of being mauled by many a fan — I never got the allure of Robert Pattinson.

But I have to admit that after interviewing him a couple of times, I started to get it. Despite the mass hysteria of fans trailing him from hotel to hotel and laying siege since the start of Twilight, he has seemingly taken all of the madness in stride.

And if you consider that this guy’s the object of desire of complete strangers who want to be him (and with him), buy and sell things with his face on it, run their fingers through his hair, watch him do intimate things, eat his leftovers, swipe his underwear and basically to see him live his life under a miscroscope? It’s all pretty impressive.

“No, I don’t mind at all,” I replied.

So we’ve literally come to the end. What’s one word to sum up the entire experience?

Robert Pattinson: Hmm ... Insane!

How so?

Just having ... You know, in 2008, I came over to LA to audition for a different movie which I didn’t get. And then I wanted to quit acting afterwards. Then I did the audition for this (the Twilight Saga) the next day. My agent was saying, “Just go in for it! See what happens.” And I was like, “I’m not going to get it! I never get anything!” (Like a petulant child)

Your agent needs a big gift, eh?

Hahah, yeah. No issue, yeah. And I literally have been signed to my American agent for three years! Never got anything! And the first thing I get ends up becoming this huge thing! It’s crazy.

Is it still mindblowing that someone from Singapore hangs on to your every single word and action? Do you think, over the course of five films, you’ve gotten better in dealing with the fandom and the passion of Twi-hards?

Yeah. That’s always fine. As soon you become recognised or any kind of public person, so many want to attack you all the time.

Your fans are the ones … (to whom) you say “I’m cool with you, guys! You guys can do whatever you want!” Yeah, the criticism is the difficult part. (Laughs)

You think you’ve learnt to deal with that a bit better?

Oh no. I got worse! (Laughs) You know, with the more experiences you have, you’re just kind of like (makes a throwaway gesture with hands) “Nah!” It doesn’t really matter.

What are you going to miss most about Edward?

It’s just strange to do a part so many times and then it’s just done. I feel so familiar with it, and I put so much work into it. You get to a point where you’re having big arguments with say, (director) Bill Condon on this (film), with him saying, “I think you should do it this way,” and I’m saying, “Well, Edward wouldn’t do it that way!” I’ve known him longer than you have, Bill!” (Laughs)

It’s now time to spill the beans. Share with us a little secret quirk about co-stars Kristen and Taylor Lautner that no one else knows.

(Thinks hard for some time) Taylor categorises his jackets. I am not entirely sure but someone told me once and I was like “Really? How does he do that?”

Kristen? I’ve been asked this question, like, six times! So I’ve got to keep thinking of new stuff. She likes to buy unusual candies from foreign countries. Hmmm, that’s not very interesting. (Laughs)

That’s the one thing she keeps as memory of the places you guys visited or filmed at together?

Yeah, always. And also, like, products from pharmacies and stuff.

How odd.

Yeah, very odd.

So what’s happily ever after for Robert Pattinson now that Twilight has come to an absolute end.

I don’t know… I like stress! I don’t like finality. I like things that move really, really fast. So I think this year will be very exciting. To do a bunch of different movies, in a bunch of different places.

The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part 2 is out in cinemas tomorrow.
