SINGAPORE — Due to popular demand, the SG50 film, 7 Letters, will be extending its commercial run — for the second time — for by one more week at selected Golden Village cinemas until Sept 16.

Since starting its limited theatrical run on Aug 20, public support for critically acclaimed film anthology has garnered box office takings of S$315,000 (as of yesterday, Sept 9).

A compendium of seven short films, 7 Letters is the combined efforts of 7 acclaimed film-makers Royston Tan, Eric Khoo, K Rajagopal, Jack Neo, Tan Pin Pin, Boo Junfeng and Kelvin Tong- who came together to deliver a historic cinematic love letter to Singapore on her 50th birthday.

All proceeds, after covering theatrical and distribution costs, will be going towards the 7 Letters’ beneficiaries, which were specifically selected by the directors themselves.

They are: The Alzheimer’s Disease Association, the Children-At-Risk Empowerment Association, the Movement for the Intellectually Disabled of Singapore, the Pertapis Senior Citizens Fellowship Home, the Singapore Buddhist Lodge Welfare Foundation, the Student Care Service and Transient Workers Count Too.

Right from the start, there was an overwhelming public demand to see the film, which was centred around the concept of “home”. Tickets to the film’s initial three-day gala screening at the iconic Capitol Theatre were all snapped up within two hours of their release on July 1. Additional screenings at the Gallery Theatre in the National Museum of Singapore were similarly snapped up.

A limited-edition DVD set is currently available for pre-order. Each DVD box set includes personal memorabilia, insights, and nostalgic keepsakes from the seven directors. Those interested in the box set can place their orders with Objectifs Retail Store. Each set is retailing at S$200, with all proceeds going to the same beneficiaries.

7 Letters is fully supported by the Singapore Film Commission (SFC) and was selected as the first film to be screened at the newly refurbished Capitol Theatre. mm2 Entertainment Pte Ltd (a wholly owned subsidiary of mm2 Asia Ltd) and Golden Village Pictures are the co-distributors for its theatrical release in Singapore.
