SINGAPORE — This Chinese New Year, Ah Boys To Men’s young alum reunite with director Jack Neo in The Lion Men.

In the new film, Tosh Zhang and Wang Wei Liang play two lion dancers who, after a falling out, end up battling one another. While Zhang’s character Shi Shen dreams of modernising the art of lion dance, Wang’s character Mikey unfortunately has a fear of heights, which limits his lion dancing skills.

In reality, however, it’s Wang who has some experience with lion dancing—and it’s Zhang who, despite his cool image onscreen, is afraid of heights.

Admitted Zhang: “Actually I’m the one that’s afraid of heights; I can’t even sit on a rollercoaster, because I don’t really like that feeling. When director Jack Neo asked me to go up on the wires, I thought they would just raise me a few inches above ground and jump around (on the pillars), but they actually hung me three stories high above the pillars with no padding below so I was screaming all the way, even though I was supposed to look cool while doing the stunts. But after a while, I actually found it really fun.”

The Lion Men opens in cinemas on Jan 30.
