SINGAPORE — When a friend of mine heard I was going to see Girls’ Generation at their world tour Girls and Peace, the first thing he said was, “Have fun looking at those long legs!” True enough, the moment the wildly popular K-pop group Girls’ Generation appeared on stage with a deafening grand entrance, their lengthy legs immediately caught my eye.

The world tour, held at the Singapore Indoor Stadium on Oct 12 was filled with desperate screams — and perhaps even a little drool — from fans as the girls’ mighty long legs dominated the stage from one routine to the next; and even when standing still. From Hoot to The Boys, their fans (dubbed SONEs) were entertained with nearly 180 minutes worth of the girls’ hits. And mind you, the nine-member strong group does have a truckload of hits under their belt.

The girls, Taeyeon, Jessica, Sunny, Tiffany, Hyoyeon, Yuri, Sooyoung, Yoona and Seohyun, kick-started the concert with Hoot, stealing the hearts of many as they performed their hit single with a cutesy cupid-and-arrow dance, before continuing straight into their Japanese track, Animal, showcasing what I thought was impressive versatility. Other hits like The Boys and Run Devil Run showed off the girls’ sexier side as they flaunted their long legs once again with power-packed dance moves, accompanied by elaborate stage setups such as water fountains, and explosive cannons, making it a night to not easily forgotten.

Their ability to go from cute, sexy and just plain glamorous in one night was enviable; it made me so jealous that just halfway through the show, I complained how God might have been a little unfair after all. The girls, who were glowing like real Goddesses by now, also turned out to be quite a goofy bunch as they interacted with the crowd with dorky dance steps and funny voices, which, believe or not, made them even more lovable than they already are.

Before I knew it, they were back with an encore, starting off with an acapella version of their debut single, Into The New World. They delivered in perfect harmony, showing off their vocal prowess before switching it up with their subgroup TaeTiSeo’s funky soul hit, Twinkle.

“Usually fans thank us for giving them a great show, but for this show, we’d like to thank you for getting us so pumped up and giving us a great show,” said American-born South Korean Tiffany, who humbly thanked the crowd for their enthusiastic reception.

By the end of the night, I left the stadium with fond memories of the girls’ glamorous yet goofy side, humming to the tunes of their hits — and maybe still a tad envious of those gorgeous legs.
