SINGAPORE — Organisers of the Singapore International Jazz Festival, or Sing Jazz Festival, have announced the second wave of artistes to join its line-up. The announcement was made at a special pop-up event with Lush 99.5FM at the Sing Jazz Club last night; and they have beefed up the local contingent.
Singapore musicians named in the list include Intriguant (featuring popular singer-songwriter Charlie Lim), Tim De Cotta (who has made a name for himself in music trio TAJ, as well as backing some of Singapore’s top indie acts), singer-songwriter Weish (best known as one-half of electro duo .gif) and funk outfit The Good Life Project (featuring singer Vandetta), surely one of the most exciting young funk bands in town.
They, along with Tribal Tide, Fauxe and Mediocre Haircut Crew, will take the stage in a segment called Lush Limelight, which is curated by Mediacorp radio station Lush 99.5FM.
As for international artistes, the biggest name in this new list will probably be British outfit, Level 42. Led by bassist Mark King, Level 42 made a name for themselves in the 1980s with songs such as Something About You, Hot Water, Running In The Family, Tracie and their monster smash, Lessons In Love. Joining them at the festival, which is set to take place from March 4 to 6 at Marina Bay Sands’ event plaza, will be Russian jazz trumpeter Vadim Eilenkrig and Mexican pianist Hector Infanzon.
“Level 42 is an icon of the 1980s and 1990s music scene and Mark King’s playing style legendary among bass players! So Sing Jazz is delighted to welcome the band as a late addition to our already exciting line-up,” shared David Lyndon Smith, co-founder and artistic director of Sing Jazz.
“We’re excited to partner with SingJazz this year as they expand on the concept of ‘music for all’,” said Vanessa Fernandez, assistant programme director at Lush99.5FM.
“We hope to show that jazz influences many modern contemporary artistes, particularly local musicians, and that this inspiration can manifest itself in the expression of other genres like soul, hip-hop and electronica as well,” she added.
These newly announced acts will join a line-up that includes English singer-songwriter Joss Stone, Cuban jazz act Buena Vista Social Club, which is on its farewell world tour, British acid jazz band Incognito, and local musicians Jeremy Monteiro and Charlie Lim.
In addition, festival organisers also announced a special 21-hour discount of 15 per cent off single day passes for festival-goers who purchase their tickets from now until 5pm today using the code SJXLUSH from EventCliQue and Marina Bay Sands.
