The Power Of Love (Sam Bailey) | 3.5/5
SINGAPORE — Sam Bailey’s striking voice is powerful enough to put both Faith Hill and Celine Dion to shame. And on this album of covers, her best tracks include From This Moment On, And I’m Telling You and Superwoman, all of which are packed with equal punch and panache and yes, delivered flawlessly. In addition, Bailey’s tracks have somewhat of a “mommy’s touch”, putting her listeners well at ease. It’s like a great Balinese massage - it ultimately transports you to paradise and back.

Sadly, her vocals lack tenderness that could’ve made her album more well-rounded. It’s obvious that she tried the soft approach with Treasure, but it just came off as over-singing - like a Christina Aguilera parody.
And despite much anticipation for original content, Bailey seems adamant in delivering a complete covers-only album. The verdict? Singing other artistes’ songs isn’t going to get her far. Bailey needs to display her own songs to prove that she rightfully is at the top of her game.
