Paradise Valley (John Mayer) | 3/5

SINGAPORE - Coming back from not one, but two vocal surgeries due to a serious throat condition last year, American Singer-Songwriter John Mayer showed that nothing can stop him from singing anytime soon. In his latest album, Paradise Valley, fans would immediately be immersed in John’s special flavor of an almost calming country rock with his sweet guitar riffs. Singles such as Paper Doll and Wildfire set a catchy yet slow groovy mood for the album. And just when tracks like Waitin’ On The Day and On The Way Home start to sound like one another, Katy Perry was a breath of fresh air in Who You Love, showing off her strong vocals while matching John’s soothing raspy voice, building up to a beautiful catchy harmony crooning “Who you love” through most of the chorus. Although very much similar to his previous album Born And Raised which had roaring sales in the US, Paradise Valley has had a slow start in the first week of its debut. However, one can find gems like Who You Love, Dear Marie, and Call Me The Breeze a good enough reason to take a listen to the album’s catchy country tunes.
