SINGAPORE — Actress Kimberly Chia has been featured in cinematic hits such as Royston Tan’s 881 and Jack Neo’s Where Got Ghost and TV dramas like MediaCorp TV Channel 5’s Fighting Spiders and Channel 8’s On The Fringe; so she has a lot of experience doing prep for any project.
But, the young actress said, playing Lee Tan in Rules Of Tham offered her the most fun when it came to preparing for a role.
“It’s my first time filming a comedy and to prepare myself, I watched a lot of sitcoms. And it helps that Lee Tan is such a fun character to play that sometimes even I crack up at her actions,” she said.
The Channel 5 series sees Tan and three other teenagers living under one roof, closely supervised by Professor Tham. And the four have to find a way to live together in harmony.
The rather simple-minded Tan is just like any other teenager, who loves taking selfies and posting them on social media sites. And Chia, who is 19 this year, said relating to her teenage character wasn’t that difficult. (The popular actress has her own fan club and even an app under her name in iTunes.)
“Lee Tan is really more of a cheerful personality and she’s always having fun with what she does,” she said. “She’s a social media fanatic and I personally do enjoy being on my Twitter, Instagram and Facebook accounts so I’m definitely able to relate to her in that aspect”.
But Rules Of Tham isn’t the only item on her plate this year. “I’m also currently filming the Channel 8 drama World At Your Feet and it’s slated to debut in May. I hope to continue filming dramas or maybe take up hosting programmes as well.”
Catch Rules Of Tham on Channel 5, Tuesdays at 8.30pm.
