SINGAPORE — It was a night of celebration and revelry for MediaCorp at the 20th Asian Television Awards (ATA), held today (Dec 3) at the Suntec Singapore Convention and Exhibition Centre.

MediaCorp clinched the prestigious Terrestrial Broadcaster of the Year award for the third consecutive year — its 12th in the history of the awards show — as well as the Terrestrial Channel Of The Year Award for Channel NewsAsia.

“These awards attest to the quality of the content that my team has been producing, so we have to keep at it, no matter what form it is, whether it is a seven-minute show, a half-hour show, a one-hour show, we’ve got to be good in storytelling, we’ve got to have captivating content,” said Mr Shaun Seow, chief executive officer of MediaCorp.

“I just want to thank everybody who believed in us 17 years ago when we launched, and who still believe in us, to help us to achieve this award, to help us help you understand Asia better,” said Ms Debra Soon, who is Head, Family (English) & Premier Segment.

Of the 40 categories contested at this year’s awards, which were held over two nights, MediaCorp was nominated in 27. It won in four categories, including Best Direction for Channel NewsAsia’s Danger Zone: Kabul, as well as Best Documentary Programme (One-Off/Special), Best Social Awareness Programme and Best Theme Song, which were awarded the night before.

The star-studded awards show was attended by Taiwanese actress Ruby Lin, Mandopop singer Jeff Chang, Korean girl group Secret, Indonesian singer Anggun, as well as local stars Pierre Png, Chen Hanwei, Joanne Peh, Tosh Zhang and Wang Weiliang.

Singaporean actor Lim Kay Tong was also awarded Best Actor in a Supporting Role for his role in HBO Asia’s Grace.
