SINGAPORE - 20 creative groups and individuals from Singapore have been selected to travel across the globe in a travelling showcase called Singapore: Inside Out, as part of SG50 celebrations this year.

Led by the Singapore Tourism Board (STB), these 20 groups and individuals, including poet and writer Alvin Pang, artist Ho Tzu Nyen, playwright Joel Tan, actress Tan Kheng Hua, sound-media artist Zulkifle Mahmod and artist Robert Zhao Renhui, will display their works in Beijing, London and New York City, before returning to Singapore.

The first international stop for the showcase will be held in Beijing from April 22 to 26. In addition to performances by the 20 artists, the Beijing presentation will also include a screening of selected short films by Singaporean director Royston Tan, a post-screening discussion with Tan and Chinese film producer Qin Yu, as well as an evening of live music by audio-visual collective Syndicate with Chinese musician ChaCha. Singaporean filmmaker Tan Siok Siok will also be sharing her project, The Crowd and I.

“One takeaway we hope everyone will have is that Singapore has a diverse range of creative talents who are doing very good work in Singapore and around the world. And that is adding to the reputation of the country that we already have. People know us as a business city, as a financial hub, as an air hub and a sea hub. This is a narrative that is a little less explored, so we hope through this show that we will add that additional texture and character to people’s impression of Singapore,” said Lionel Yeo, Chief Executive of STB.

The Singapore: Inside Out presentation in London will be held at Old Truman Brewery in East London from June 24 to June 28, and at Madison Square Park in New York City from Sept 23 to 27. The show in Singapore will run for ten days from Nov 27 to Dec 6 at the junction of North Bridge Road and Tan Quee Lan Street.
