22,000 bricks used to construct 2.59m ‘dragon playground’

SINGAPORE — Enter the dragon ... playground! In conjunction with Singapore’s SG50 celebrations, LEGO Singapore has launched the LEGO SG50 Rebuild Your Memories campaign with a series of event. One of them was the “live” construction of a 2.59m-long LEGO version of a local nostalgic favorite, the iconic “dragon playground”, which was completed last Saturday at the atrium of Raffles City Shopping Mall.

One of them was the “live” construction of a 2.59m-long LEGO version of a local nostalgic favorite, the iconic “dragon playground”, which was completed last Saturday at the atrium of Raffles City Shopping Mall.

The structure was constructed by LEGO Certified Professional Nicholas Foo with the help of the public, who were encouraged to register and take part. Foo spent a total of 32 hours building the structure, using 22,000 bricks. (To put that into perspective: If all the LEGO bricks used for the dragon playground were stacked up brick by brick on top of each other, it would be taller than the 165m-tall Singapore Flyer.)

Last May, around 600,000 Building My SG LEGO sets (containing 244 bricks each) were given to students to commemorate Singapore’s Golden Jubilee.

The LEGO dragon playground will be available for public viewing until July 30. GENEVIEVE LOH
