Dig into Singapore’s biggest bowl of ice kachang in the name of charity
SINGAPORE — If you have a thing for upsized desserts or just a soft spot for ice kachang, then you might want head down to Hotel Jen Orchardgateway Singapore (Level 10) tomorrow (Aug 5) at 1pm. To commemorate Singapore’s Golden Jubilee, the hotel hopes to top the current record of 3m; with a dessert measuring 5m in height and weighing a whopping 4,000kg. The team, led by the hotel’s chef de cuisine Lee Hoong Wan, aims to achieve this by piling bags of ice shavings to form a record-breaking mount.

The event is open to the public, and is also a fund-raising initiative to raise awareness and support for the hotel’s newly-adopted charity, the Cerebral Palsy Alliance Singapore (CPAS). It hopes to serve 500 bowls of ice kachang from the mammoth creation and guests are free to donate any amount of money they want to the charity, and all donations collected will go to CPAS, said Herve Duboscq, the hotel’s general manager mentioned.
“We want to do something memorable to celebrate the nation’s 50th birthday and what’s better than to set a record for one of Singapore’s local delicacies, the ice kachang,” he added.
