LA’s Lime Truck food truck in S’pore this week
SINGAPORE — It’s time to take to the streets — Los Angeles food truck sensation The Lime Truck is in town this week.
UPDATE: Due to parking restrictions, the location of the FIJI Water Lime Truck Pop‐Up on August 15 (7pm to 10pm) has been changed to Orchard Gateway.
SINGAPORE — It’s time to take to the streets — Los Angeles food truck sensation The Lime Truck is in town this week.
The food truck brand helmed by 25-year-old chef-restaurateur Daniel Shemtob, winner of the second season of Food Network’s The Great Food Truck Race, will be serving its inspired Mexican quite bites at two destinations: Outside The Vault on Circular Road on Aug 15 (7pm to 10pm) and outside Orchard Gateway on Aug 16 (5pm to 9pm).
The initiative is courtesy of the first-ever collaboration between local food truck operator Kerbside Gourmet and FIJI Water.
And in case you’re wondering, Shemtob will not be actually bringing his food truck all the way from LA. Instead, Kerbside Gourmet (or Kerby, as the truck is affectionately known) will be transformed to replicate The Lime Truck’s signature lime green exterior.
Shemtob will be serving three tantalising signature dishes: Braised pork belly taco with tomatillo Pico de Gallo and Sriracha; a fresh fish ceviche tostada; and taco with blue crab and jicama. Each dish will be complemented by a bottle of FIJI Water and sold for S$10.
“I think (Singaporeans) will enjoy the dishes,” said Shemtob. “The last time I was in Asia, Mexican food was on the rise and there were not too many places that served the cuisine. I’ve also incorporated some Asian flare into the dishes so Singaporeans will not feel the tastes to be too far from home. The dishes showcase a great fusion of southern Californian with Asian flavours.”
Just as convinced is Kerbside Gourmet owner Luan Ee, 49, who reckoned the fish ceviche will be very popular.
“It’s like a high-end yu sheng with premium ingredients and very fresh fish as the star ingredient,” she said. “The pork belly taco is (going to be) another popular one, slow-braised till fork-tender. Limited portions; so do come early.”
Bringing in great food that won’t burn a hole in consumers’ pockets isn’t the only driving force behind this initiative. All proceeds from the two-day event will be donated to Willing Hearts, a non-profit organisation that provides for the needy in Singapore.
“As a social enterprise, we are driven by how we can generate a creative commercial activity to fund a social cause,” she said. “FIJI Water offered us this opportunity through this innovative culinary event. Good food by passionate people — plus (it’s) only S$10 dollars, plus (it’s) a chance to liven up the streets in Singapore and drive social change. This is what Kerby was built to do!”
The FIJI Water Lime Truck Pop‐Up will be parked outside The Vault (23 Circular Road) on Aug 15, 7pm to 10pm, and outside Orchard Gateway on Aug 16, 5pm to 9pm. For more updates, visit http://www.facebook.com.sg/FIJIWaterSG, or follow @FIJIWaterSG on Twitter or Instagram.
