Maria Sharapova to launch Sugarpova sweets in S’pore
SINGAPORE — Her popularity will no doubt be forever anchored to her prowess on the tennis courts, but it seems Maria Sharapova’s sweet tooth for success has a more literal connection.
SINGAPORE — Her popularity will no doubt be forever anchored to her prowess on the tennis courts, but it seems Maria Sharapova’s sweet tooth for success has a more literal connection.
Not only will the world’s No 4 (who will be hoping to close the season on a high at the first BNP Paribas WTA Finals in Singapore this month) be taking time out of her crammed schedule to honour commitments to various lifestyle brands such as TAG Heuer and Evian, she will also be making time for something more personal.
Sugarpova — Sharapova’s premium-yet-affordable range of candy — will be available for the first time at Robinsons The Heeren. Conceived in 2012 as a product that reflects her “fashionable and sweet side”, the beautifully packaged sweets range from rainbow-coloured vanilla chewy candies to fruit-flavoured gummy heels and purses. They are also playfully labelled to hint at the Russian’s less competitive and more fun-loving nature off the court — Chick, Flirty, Quirky and even Silly Sour. The collection will consist of nine varieties and are priced at S$7.50 for a 142g packet.
“Creating Sugarpova has been an exciting labour of love,” said Sharapova in a statement. “My tennis and business schedules keep me travelling worldwide and I confess to having a sweet tooth that knows what it wants! When I didn’t find it in the marketplace, I decided to create the type of candy that people like me crave. I can’t wait to share Sugarpova with my fellow candy lovers.”
Sharapova will be in town for the launch on Oct 15 for a special meet-and-greet session with her fans, from 6.30pm to 8.30pm at the store entrance adjacent to Cairnhill Road.
