SINGAPORE — South-east Asia’s first POMPOMPURIN Cafe will open in Singapore at Orchard Central on April 18.
For the uninitated, POMPOMPURIN is a yellow golden retriever dog character introduced by Sanrio in 1996. Always seen with a brown beret, the cute pup loves drinking milk and eating soft food and pudding that his mother makes. While seemingly not as famous as its counterpart like Hello Kitty, his fluffy-looking, huggable appearance has earned him legions of fans and the title of first place winner in the Sanrio Character ranking in 2015.
Covering a space of 1,900 sq ft, fans of the popular character can expect an all-things-POMPOMPURIN experience at the cafe. This means customers will not only be greeted with canine-themed decor (from the wallpaper right down to the cutlery and table mats), but also a full menu of cute-looking food and drinks in the shape of POMPOMPURIN.
Every POMPOMPURIN Cafe in the world takes on a different theme that suits the local culture, which is why the one in Singapore will be sporting a “garden city” theme, inspired by little red dot’s lush greenery. Conceptualised by Sanrio Japan, the cafe can seat a total of 78 people. Cafe patrons can also request to sit at one of the four four-seater booths, called “Tomodachi House” (translated as Friends House), which feature one of Purin’s friends – Bagel the Squirrel, Coconut the Monkey, Mint the Frog and Macaroon the Golden Retriever.
As for the POMPOMPURIN die hard fan, a wide variety of merchandise ranging from handbags, water tumblers to plush toys will also be available for purchase.
POMPOMPURIN Cafe is located at 181 Orchard Road #04-08, Orchard Central. Open daily from 11am to 10.30pm (last order at 10pm).
