SINGAPORE – It’s surprising but true: We are now more exclusive than New York’s Upper East Side.

One square metre in Paterson Hill, that little stretch behind Orchard Road, costs US$14,500 (or approximately S$18,000) more than the same space on Fifth Avenue. That makes Paterson Hill the fifth most expensive street in the world, with an average price of US$42,500 or S$53,800 per square metre, according to a study by Billionaire.com (a lifestyle resource site for high net worth individuals) using data provided by real estate consultancy Knight Frank.

We don’t know if it’s due to the rareified air up there on this tiny hill or the fact that Facebook’s Eduardo Saverin lives there. This places Paterson Hill far above New York’s Fifth Avenue (that’s in ninth place) and Avenue Montaigne in Paris (10th place).

Well, we suppose we can take comfort that Hong Kong topped this list with Pollock’s Path costing an average of US$120,000 per square metre. Then again, it’s not located at The Peak for nothing.

Here are the top 10 most expensive streets in the world:
