How to be a true class act like Ms Angelina Jolie-Pitt

SINGAPORE -- Angelina Jolie’s wedding to Brad Pitt made even the most cynical of us women cheer a little. Even if it was on the inside. It was because she finally made an honest man out of Pitt who had “pleaded” with her to say yes for the kids’ sake, according to reports.

The wedding was just her style: A simple statement was released five days later to say they had gotten hitched oh-so-matter-of-factly. Her gown while designer — a silk satin Atelier Versace gown custom-designed by Donatella Versace, no less — had a rebellious streak: Her veil was embroidered with reproductions of her children’s drawings. While it was also reported that the newly-weds teared during the ceremony, Jolie told actor Niels Arestrup, who has a role in her upcoming movie, that she didn’t feel any different after. In fact, she would have already started work on her film By The Sea as you read this.

So, yes, sigh with envy and admiration. Take heart that you, too, can follow in her footsteps. Living life on your own terms as a woman is not as daunting as it seems. Sometimes we just need a little inspiration.

Step 1: Develop some style and sass like Alexa Chung

While Jolie’s style may be intimidating to some, a milder take ala Alexa Chung is no less empowering. See how Chung is practically always in a laidback mix of designer and street wear? Find an inimitable style that works for you — be it be tailored classics, girlie chic or casual cool.

Chung is never seen without accessories, from her bags to floppy hats to the many necklaces and rings she’s adorned with. Be sure to invest in statement pieces and well-made pieces of jewellery. Good jewellery is style that will last you a lifetime.

Have fun dressing up. Take chances with your make-up, like creating your own shade of lipstick like Chung. Confidence is the true appeal. If you believe you can carry a look off, you will.

Step 2: Get cultured like Mila Kunis

Jolie is probably among the most well-travelled celeb around. Well, besides George Clooney. The spunky Mila Kunis exudes similarly gypsy vibes. Remember the American actress’s interview session with Brit reporter Chris Stark where she charmed the socks off everyone by bantering about the Englishman’s local football club as well as steak and ale pie? Being open-minded and curious about others makes you a more interesting individual.

Pamper yourself with what you love. Love wining and dining? Check out a new bar or reserve a table at that restaurant you heard so much about. There’s no reason why you need a date to do that. You have your pals. There’s also nothing quite like having a glass of wine on your own. As Kunis was said, “My glass of wine and I are besties.”

Step 3: Be independent like Beyonce

Jolie’s closest counterpart in the music business is probably Queen Bey — a woman notorious for her work ethic and take-no-prisoners attitude.

While we can’t love our jobs all of the time, we love the independence that comes with having our own disposable income to buy our own damn cocktails and 1 carat diamond ring. There’s no need to sit around waiting for a man to buy you a good rock.

Stand up for yourself and your convictions. Beyonce pretty much wrote the script — and songs — when it comes to speaking one’s mind because she’s worked hard to get where she is.

Step 4: Relax about finding The One like Rachel McAdams

Nobody would say Jolie was ever a woman who needed a Prince Charming. She’s just as fulfilled alone or with a man. Similarly, while the world may have wept when Rachel McAdams broke up with Ryan Gosling, the Canadian actress is sanguine about the whole affair. In the August issue of Allure, she shared that she still believes in true love even though she has had her share of heartbreak. And by the way, this is a woman so confident, she appeared on the cover of the magazine practically make-up-free. We bet Ryan Gosling’s crying somewhere.
