Rebecca Lim on being a gold-digger — in a good way

SINGAPORE — Just how awesome was Rebecca Lim’s 2015? Pretty awesome, we think. Her career reached new heights with a double win at the Star Awards, snagging Best Actress as well as a Top 10 Most Popular award. She had also picked up an endorsement deal with Aussie multivitamin brand Swisse — to add on to her ongoing gigs with SK-II, Mercedes Benz and Uniqlo. And to cap it off, she’s now the first celebrity ambassador for Goldheart Jewellery, as the face of the brand’s 916 gold collection known as Goldheart Gold.

And it seems a perfect fit. The usually composed actress gushed about how she’s always loved that particular shiny metal since she was young. “My parents and grandparents gave me gold jewellery as a child but my mom kept them for me until I was much older and could care for them myself. My grandparents bought gold for my brother, too, so I grew up believing that gold could be worn by both genders,” she shared. “I feel that there’s a certain charm in wearing gold jewellery — that these tell a story for generations to come.”

Yes, she’s not one of those who think gold is too old-fashioned or “obiang”. “It’s like saying, ‘Hey, money is obiang.’ That’s not right, right?”
she quipped.

We see Becks’ point. Just as we agree with her that accessorising makes even the simplest outfits look better. And for this festive season, the actress encouraged everyone to bling it on.

“It’s an occasion to dress up. I say, wear jewellery that makes you shine, that will make you look and feel more festive!” she enthused, adding that she personally has got her eye on the rose gold designs from Goldheart’s Mode Gold collection. And to complement the look, she recommends pinkish or red lippie, radiant skin and a classic black bag.

But her ease with fashion wasn’t always the case. The self-confessed accessory junkie who digs her shoes, shades and bags revealed there was a point in her life where she didn’t know when to stop piling on the accessories and make-up. Vividly recalling that particular fashion disaster, she said: “It was my prom night when I was in Secondary 4. I went overboard with my make-up and looked like a zombie. And I totally over-accessorised — I had a shiny headband, a choker, ring, earrings, a crystal necklace and chunky bracelets. I looked like
a mess!”
