TAIPEI - It’s no surprise that this year’s Chinese New Year collection from H&M features the colour of passionate love, seduction and adventure. After a successful debut last year featuring New York-based Chinese models Sui He and Tian Yi, the Swedish clothing giant has extended its reach for this year’s collection, roping in celebrity couple Archie Kao and Zhou Xun to front their campaign.

“At H&M, we always aim to surprise our customers so this time, we decided to do something different,” H&M Singapore public relations manager Abby Wee revealed about the company’s decision to feature the pair. “With celebrity couple Zhou Xun and Archie Kao, who just got married, we felt this was a great opportunity to work with them for the campaign as Chinese New Year is all about celebrating with your family and loved ones.”

And it seems the combined star wattage is working. Fans of the brand started queuing up in front of their new Taipei store, located in the trendy Xinyi district two days before doors opened.

The collection’s influences were a mix of feminine elegance and urban city looks, and this can be seen in the offerings, such as the men’s blazers, shirts and chinos, as well as the women’s playsuits, dresses and accessories – all of which come in red hues. “Some of our key red pieces include the playsuit, the sequin cropped top that adds a touch of glamour and accessories such as peep-toe booties and clutch bags,” added Wee.

Renowned Swedish illustrator Beata Boucht added a floral touch as well, with her spring blossom illustrations inspired by Chinese New Year. Said Zhou Xun: “I have always loved H&M because I never fail to find fashion inspirations and trendy separates to mix and match. This collection is great for the New Year as it combines fun festive spirit with effortless glamour.”

Prices start from S$5.90 (for a bangle) and S$19.90 (for a tie) and are available now at H&M stores.
