SINGAPORE — Unless you have been living under a rock, you’ll certainly have heard the song Sugar, that catchy tune by German DJ and record producer Robin Schulz. It was one of the hottest singles last summer and has racked up more than 167 million views on YouTube alone.

So, perhaps, it really is not all that surprising that its creator is getting quite tired of playing the track.

“I have heard this song a lot!” the award-winning musician said in an email interview with TODAY. “But it still makes me happy to see people enjoying it so much.”

Schulz will perform for the very first time here tomorrow at Zouk. His gig here comes after a very busy 2015 in which he played at “more than 200 cities in countless countries”. The 28-year-old, who released his sophomore album (also called Sugar) last September — as a follow-up to his gold-certified debut Prayer, in 2014 — said he was looking forward to his gig at Zouk.

“Zouk is a very big name in club-land,” he said. “I had already heard of it as a teenager, and it’s an honour to play there.”

Q: You’ve said that you work on a lot of music while you are on tour, on the plane or in the hotel. How do you stay focused?

A: I don’t want to quote any cliches, but the gigs and the people help me stay focused.

Q: What is your favourite thing to do when there is some down time while you are on tour?

A: Very simple — sleep! And of course, checking out the city if there is enough time.

Q: What, to you, is the single most important thing about a hotel?

A: To be honest, I like big hotel rooms and would love to have the nicest room possible! But this has nothing to do with a luxurious lifestyle — it’s because the room is more or less like my temporary home. And a nice room makes me happy.

Q: What is the most dangerous or adventurous thing you have done on a trip?

A: It’s not easy to say! But I think the most adventurous thing I have done was perhaps to try this really hot chili once in South America! Haha.

Q: What is your top priority when you are on vacation, and why?

A: Sleeping, sleeping and sleeping. HON JING YI

Robin Schulz will perform tomorrowat Zouk. Admission for non-members (including 2 drinks) is S$28 for ladies and S$33 for men.
