Jetsetting with Percy & Reed’s Adam Reed
SINGAPORE — When you’re one half of the salon that tends to the tresses of celebs like Diane Kruger and creates rave-worthy hair products, the first thing you pay attention to during your travels is — surprise — the airport. In particular, the people at the airport.
SINGAPORE — When you’re one half of the salon that tends to the tresses of celebs like Diane Kruger and creates rave-worthy hair products, the first thing you pay attention to during your travels is — surprise — the airport. In particular, the people at the airport.
“I love the people-watching in airports,” gushed Adam Reed, who flew in for the launch Percy & Reed’s Perfectly Perfecting Wonder Balm at Sephora. “I think the people in Hong Kong and Bangkok airports are the most interesting and stylish.”
And no, Changi didn’t make it into his good books — but not because we’re boring dressers. “I don’t like the carpets in Changi airport. It’s really strange to have carpets at airports. I was surprised to see them when I transited at Changi enroute to Sydney.”
Q: What are your favourite Percy & Reed products to pack along for your travels?
A: The Wonder Balm, for sure. It’s anti-humidity and prevents hair from frizzing. The Totally Intensive Treatment Oil + is also great when you go to drier climates. Camellia seed oil and macadamia oil are two ingredients that keep your hair smooth and shiny. You can even apply this on your scalp.
Q: What’s the biggest disaster you’ve encountered while travelling?
A: When I left my kit bag after Fashion Week in New York. And I had to be at a hair test for another fashion show 12 hours later. I had to buy myself a whole new kit. Other than that, I’ve been really lucky in my travels.
Q: Besides looking at carpets and observing the style factor of travellers, what do you enjoy doing at airports?
A: Shopping! I’m obsessed with perfumes. I’d check out all the perfumes and skincare available in the shops. I never go into the lounges. Whatever for? I prefer to experience the different airports’ facilities. For example, I’d always get a foot massage in Bangkok’s airport.
Q: What are some of your travel must-haves you’ll recommend?
A: I have a good-sized carry-on bag. The one I use is from Tod’s. I can’t leave without my Globe-Trotter suitcase. I think it’s a great investment. I bring a bottle of altitude oil from de Mamiel. It helps me relax . And comfortable shoes. I wear my FitFlops on the plane — hey, they’re cool-looking! Someone asked me about them and thought they were from Givenchy!
Q: Where do you go to escape the glitz and glamour of your job?
A: My favourite place is Thailand. I love the food and the people there. I was just in Koh Lanta, staying in the Sri Lanta Resort. I love it. It’s not luxurious, quite back-to-basics there. I was also in Kep in Cambodia; in Bokor National Park where there were some old casino buildings. It was absolutely peaceful and stunning in its simplicity. I had some delicious pepper crabs, which Kep is famous for. Singapore has pepper crabs too? I must try them then. SERENE LIM
