SINGAPORE — If you adore the whimsical and stylish stationery of kikki.K at ION Orchard, you’ll love the lady behind the brand. And yes, she is every bit as dedicated to an organised life while on the road as her products suggest.

“I bring different bags and pouches to organise my things. We live such a fast-paced lifestyle and it’s nice to have a place for everything so you can easily find what you need,” explained the Melbourne-based Swede, who founded kikki.K with her husband.

Karlsson was in town last week to launch kikki.K’s new collections, including its Christmas range. “It’s inspired by Swedish Christmas elements — from the red houses to the snow packets you can make snow with. Yes, we even want to bring snow to our customers!”

Q: How often do you go back home to Sweden to get inspiration for your products?

A: My family and I live in Sweden for at least two months a year, from July to August. My hometown is Falkenberg — it’s a small town by the water and it’s just lovely to spend time there. In fact, I’m going back for Christmas this year.

Q: You take along your kids whenever you can when travelling for work. What are your tips for keeping them entertained?

A: I take along the activity books from kikki.K to keep them occupied. It’s a combination of books, iPad and movies on the plane. I also have a bag of surprises that I show them only on the plane. And I take along greeting cards they can fill out. It is the perfect time to spend writing greeting cards.

Q: Out of all the travel-friendly products kikki.K carries, which is your one must-have?

A: The travel wallet. It’s where I put my passport, tickets and travel forms. I’ll even bring some empty forms to fill prior to my trip. I find doing this very useful, especially when travelling with kids.

Q: Do you have any good travel habits?

A: I’m a believer of getting up early every day and I take my running shoes along for a jog to start my day. When I was in Copenhagen, I woke up at 5am every morning to run. That’s the magic hour for myself as I’d be busy the rest of the day. I listen to something inspiring, explore the neighbourhood and stumble upon new places. For example, I found a new yoga spot, an amazing library and small shops I wouldn’t have passed by in the day.

Q: As a designer and lover of beautiful things, where are your favourite places in Stockholm and Melbourne to hang out?

A: I like this neighbourhood called Soder in Stockholm. It has a lot of small indie shops and one of my favourite stops for breakfast is Urban Deli. In Melbourne, my favourite restaurants are Coda, Cumulus Inc and Stokehouse in St Kilda. Avenue Bookstore in Albert Park is another place I can spend hours in. Serene Lim
