NAYPYIDAW – Singaporean twins Mark and Timothy Lee have delivered a bronze for the Republic on the final day of the diving competition at the Myanmar SEA Games after finishing third in the men's 10m synchronised platform today (Dec 21).

Up against a field comprising Malaysian favourites Ooi Tze Liang and Muhammad Nazreen Abdullah, the Singaporean pair had been placed fourth behind Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand after their fourth dive. But the Lee brothers saved the best for last, executing two dives of 59.40 and 39.60 points to climb their way past Thailand's Pichi Suchart and Siri Boon Theerapat (294.30) and claim third spot with a total score of 300.24. The Malaysian duo won the gold in 386.28, while Indonesia was second in 327.51.

Said 19-year-old Mark, who had won two silver in the men's 30m springboard and 3m synchronised springboard (Mark and Timothy): “It is a surprise as we were not expecting this. We just wanted to enjoy the experience and we came back with this bronze medal so that's pretty good.”

Added Timothy, who is the older twin by two hours: “We have only been training for this event for two months, so we only expected a medal in the 3m springboard. We will only be competing in this after this as 10m platform has a big impact on the wrists and shoulders.”

They are also gunning for medal success at the 2015 SEA Games in Singapore, as Mark said: “We hope to be at the same standard as the Malaysians in 2015, and give them a run for their money.”
