SINGAPORE — Ten people were taken to hospital after an accident along the Pan-Island Expressway (PIE) involving multiple vehicles during peak hour on Monday morning (Sept 27).
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said in a statement that it was alerted at about 8.05am to the accident along PIE towards Changi before the Jalan Eunos exit.
Besides the 10 people taken to Changi General Hospital, SCDF said that it assessed three other persons for minor injuries and they “subsequently refused conveyance to the hospital”.
Video of the incident that circulated online captured on a vehicle's dashboard camera appeared to show a trailer truck smashing into the expressway’s centre divider. As it did so, at least two cars and one lorry appeared to be caught in a pile-up behind the truck.
Another lorry on the left side of the road appeared to have been damaged in the accident, and workers could be seen getting off the back of the lorry.
It is not clear if these workers were among the injured.
The Land Transport Authority (LTA) posted on Twitter at about 9am that the accident had led to congestion until Kim Keat Link.
In a tweet at about 11am, LTA said that congestion had reached as far as Kallang.
