SINGAPORE — Seven men and five women who were allegedly drinking alcohol, singing karaoke and socialising at a shophouse unit in Joo Chiat are being investigated by the police for breaking safe-distancing regulations.
They are aged between 20 and 44.
The police said in the statement on Tuesday (March 30) that a raid was conducted on March 26 and officers found that the business at the shophouse did not have any public entertainment licence or liquor licence.
Karaoke equipment found there was seized as a case exhibit.
A 27-year-old man, who is believed to be in charge of the operations at the shophouse, will be investigated for offences under the Public Entertainments Act and Liquor Control (Supply and Consumption) Act 2015.
The offences of providing public entertainment and supplying liquor without a valid licence each carry a fine of up to S$20,000.
“Members of the public are advised to take the prevailing safe-distancing measures seriously,” the police said.
Those found guilty of offences under the Covid-19 (Temporary Measures) (Control Order) Regulations 2020 may be jailed for up to six months or fined up to S$10,000, or both.
The police added that they will continue to take tough enforcement action against illicit activities.
