SINGAPORE — A fire broke out at a warehouse in Tuas early on Wednesday morning (May 13), with heat so intense that it caused the walls of the building to break off.

Sixteen emergency vehicles and 70 firefighters were deployed to surround and contain the fire around 6.20am, said the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF).

The fire had broken out on the second floor of a two-storey warehouse at 2B Tuas Avenue 12. Flames engulfed the contents of the warehouse, which were largely machinery and bales of plastic resin, said SCDF in a Facebook post.

“Firefighters faced intense heat from the fire, which had caused the walls of the premises to break off,” SCDF added.

Videos of the fire sent in by a TODAY reader showed huge flames engulfing a building, with massive plumes of black smoke rising to the sky. Several SCDF vehicles and crew could also be seen in front of the premises where the fire had broken out.

At the peak of the operation, SCDF used eight handheld jets to fight the fire, which was extinguished at about 7.50am.

SCDF carried out damping-down operations after the fire was put out. This involves applying water to wet burnt surfaces to prevent the fire from rekindling.

There were no reported injuries and the cause of the fire is being investigated, said SCDF.
