SINGAPORE — Apple on Tuesday (May 28) unveiled its first new iPod model in four years, which promises augmented reality (AR) experiences across gaming, education and web browsing.
The seventh-edition iPod Touch’s enhanced offerings come from the Apple-designed A10 Fusion chip, first seen on its iPhone 7 and 7 Plus models.
Capabilities such as “shared AR, persistent AR, which is tied to a specific location, and image detection” allow the new iPod to “bring to life 3D objects like toys and sculptures”, Apple said.
The new iPod Touch is not available for sale in Singapore yet, but its prices have been announced. The new 256GB capacity model will retail for S$639, while the 32GB and 128GB units will cost S$299 and S$469 respectively.
There will be six colours to choose from: Space Grey, White, Gold, Blue, Pink and Red.
In its press release, Apple also announced a new gaming subscription service called Apple Arcade, which launches later this year. It will feature more than 100 new and exclusive games with no advertisements or additional purchases, and the ability to download games for offline play.
