SINGAPORE — Chua Chu Kang GRC Member of Parliament (MP) Zaqy Mohamad will not be a member of the People’s Action Party’s (PAP) Central Executive Committee (CEC) as his employer Ernst & Young is the current auditor of the PAP.
MP for Tampines GRC Baey Yam Keng will be co-opted into the 18-member CEC instead, said PAP Organising Secretary Chan Chun Sing in a statement today (Jan 23).
“Mr Zaqy Mohamad has informed the CEC that he is unable to proceed with the appointment to the CEC owing to regulatory compliance reasons, as his employer, Ernst & Young, is the current auditor of the PAP,” said Mr Chan.
“The CEC has accepted Mr Zaqy’s request not to proceed with his appointment to the CEC. The CEC looks forward to Mr Zaqy Mohamad’s continued contributions to the Party and to Singapore,” he said.
Earlier this month, Mr Zaqy was co-opted into the PAP’s top decision-making body, along with Minister for Culture, Community and Youth Lawrence Wong, Senior Minister of State for Home Affairs and Foreign Affairs Masagos Zulkifli and Holland-Bukit Timah GRC MP Liang Eng Hwa.
