SINGAPORE – American rapper Cardi B has pulled out of this year’s Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix line-up of performers, organisers said, but No Doubt frontwoman Gwen Stefani will be stepping in.
According to the Singapore Grand Prix (Singapore GP), Ms Cardi B, who shot to international fame with her first hit single “Bodak Yellow”, had to cancel her performance at this year’s Formula 1 events due to a “major rescheduling of her September and October tour”.
Singapore GP added: “While undoubtedly disappointing, we hope to work with Cardi B again in the near future.”
Ms Stefani, a three-time Grammy Award winner, will be taking over her stage on Sept 21, alongside Swedish House Mafia, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Hans Zimmer, Muse, Fatboy Slim, Toots and the Maytals and Larkin Poe.
Ms Cardi B, who is active on social media platform Instagram, has not issued any statement about the tour rescheduling.
Some local fans, such as undergraduate Tiana Roy, 22 are disappointed.
“I was considering buying the tickets just to see her perform, but I guess I would not even consider it anymore,” she said.
Others, such as fellow undergraduate Alvina Koh, 21, were not as upset.
“I think that her fanbase here is still quite small, not many are crazy about her yet, they just probably know a few songs of hers,” she said.
Had she come, this would have been Ms Cardi B’s first time in Singapore, but it is not Ms Stefani’s debut appearance here — she held a concert in Singapore in 2007 as part of her “The Sweet Escape” tour.
Tickets for the Formula 1 events start from S$188 for a single-day Saturday ticket and go up to S$278 for a three-day pass.
