The Top Skills That Can Get You Hired in 2017 from LinkedIn
The top three skills in demand in Singapore this year are in the areas of cloud/distributed computing, SEO/SEM marketing and public policy/international relations, LinkedIn’s annual Top Skills ranking showed.
Cloud computing is the practice of using a network of remote servers hosted on the Internet to store, manage, and process data, while distributed computing is a model in which components of a software system are shared among multiple computers to improve efficiency and performance. Jobs requiring these skills typically are cloud software engineers, cloud services developers, and cloud product managers.
Other skills in demand here according to the ranking include those in the area of network/information security, foreign language translation and corporate law/governance.
The social platform’s Top Skills 2016 ranking was based on hiring and recruiting activity that happened on LinkedIn between Jan 1 and Sept 1 this year. The company identified the skill categories of members who were more likely to start new jobs and receive interest from recruiters. In Singapore, there are more than one million members on LinkedIn.
Globally, cloud/distributed Computing was also ranked first. Technical skills likewise dominated with categories like web architecture/development framework and user interface design rising more than five places each this year.
However, marketing-related skills did not seem to fare as well globally. SEO/SEM marketing fell five places to no 9, and marketing campaign management failed to make the top 10 list despite being ranked third last year.
“We hope this year’s most sought after skills on LinkedIn can shed light on how companies can train and re-skill their talent for the future, amidst increased technological disruption... While tech, marketing and business skills are key today, it is important that professionals have a mindset of continuous learning to increase their future employability,” said Mr Olivier Legrand, Managing Director for Asia Pacific and Japan at LinkedIn.
