SINGAPORE — A 22-year-old man, who was arrested after two women were found dead in a Housing and Development Board (HDB) flat in Commonwealth on Oct 27, faces a fresh charge for allegedly murdering his 90-year-old grandmother.
The State Court handed down the new charge to Gabriel Lien Goh, a Singaporean, on Monday (Nov 18).
Aside from the new charge he faces for murdering his grandmother See Keng Keng, Goh was previously given a single holding charge on Oct 28 for allegedly murdering his 56-year-old mother Lee Soh Mui.
The police said on Oct 27 that the authorities were alerted to the case of two unnatural deaths at 7.24pm. The two women were found lying motionless in the flat, and were pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene
Court papers did not provide details on what led to the women's deaths.
Addressing the court via a video-link on Monday, Goh said that he wanted to apologise to his relatives.
“I want to clarify (that) what happened was an accident,” he said. “I had no control over my actions, and never intended any of these terrible things that have happened.”
Before Goh could say more, District Judge Terence Tay interrupted and advised Goh to speak directly to a lawyer instead.
“As far as further details that happened that day, it is something you may want to reserve for later,” the judge said.
Goh remains in remand at Changi Prison’s Complex Medical Centre for psychiatric assessment, and will next appear in court via video-link on Nov 25.
If convicted, Goh could face the death penalty.
