SINGAPORE — The Ministry of Health (MOH) on Wednesday (April 8) announced 142 new cases of Covid-19 in the country, bringing the total number of cases here to 1,623.

It is the highest single-day spike of cases here, the previous being the 120 cases reported on Sunday.

Of the 142 cases reported on Wednesday, 40 cases were linked to local clusters at foreign worker dormitories and 28 were linked to non-dormitory clusters or other cases.

Two were imported cases while 72 infections are currently “pending contact tracing”, MOH said.

Twenty additional cases are linked to the S-11 Dormitory. The largest local cluster of infections now has 118 confirmed cases.

To date, a total of 406 cases have fully recovered from the infection and have been discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities, including the 29 discharged on Wednesday.

The MOH said that of the 669 confirmed cases who are still in hospital, most are stable or improving.

Twenty-nine are in critical condition in the intensive care unit.

The MOH said that 542 cases who are clinically well but still test positive for Covid-19 are isolated and cared for at Concord International Hospital, Mount Elizabeth Hospital, Gleneagles Hospital, Mount Alvernia Hospital, Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital and the Community Isolation Facility at D’Resort NTUC.

Six have died from complications due to Covid-19 infection. Another person died on Wednesday while waiting for the result of his swab test, MOH said.

PATIENT FROM THE PUBLIC HEALTHCARE SECTOR

The MOH also identified a patient from the public healthcare sector.

The patient — identified as Case 1466 — is a 31-year-old male Indian national who is a Singapore Work Pass holder, and has no recent travel history to affected countries or regions.

He had reported an onset of symptoms on April 5, and subsequent test results confirmed Covid-19 infection on April 7. He is currently warded in an isolation room at NCID.

He is employed as a technician at Ng Teng Fong General Hospital but had not gone to work since the onset of symptoms.
