SINGAPORE — Singapore has confirmed another 70 new cases of Covid-19, the Ministry of Health (MOH) said on Saturday (March 28), bringing the total here to 802.

Of the new cases, 41 are imported, with travel history to Europe, North America, Association of Southeast Asian Nations member states and other parts of Asia.

The other 29 are domestic cases who have no recent travel history abroad. Fifteen of them are linked to clusters or previous cases and another 14 cases have no links yet and contact tracing is ongoing, MOH said.

So far, 198 patients have fully recovered from the infection and have been discharged, including 15 on Saturday.

Of the 420 confirmed cases who are still in hospital, most are stable or improving. Nineteen are in critical condition in the intensive care unit.

There are 182 patients who are clinically well but still test positive and they are isolated and cared for at Concord International Hospital, Mount Elizabeth Hospital, Gleneagles Hospital and the Community Isolation Facility at D’Resort NTUC.

Two have died from complications due to the infection.

TWO POLICE OFFICERS INFECTED

In a statement on Saturday, the Singapore Police Force said that two of its officers have tested positive for Covid-19.

The first officer’s infection was confirmed on March 27 and he is listed by MOH as Case 731. The 32-year-old officer is receiving treatment at Changi General Hospital.

The second officer tested positive on March 26 and is Case 709. The 26-year-old is being treated at the National Centre of Infectious Diseases.

The police said that they are in touch with the officers and their families to render support.

Both the cases were among the 49 announced by MOH on Friday, but it was not made known then that they were police officers and the link to how they contracted the coronavirus is not known yet.

The police are assisting MOH with contact tracing.

As a precautionary measure, other officers who were identified to be in close contact with the two have been instructed to stay home, monitor their health, and practise strict safe-distancing measures.

The police have put in place workforce segregation for the work unit of any officer who had interacted closely with the infected officers, so as to minimise any potential spread of Covid-19.

LINKS BETWEEN PREVIOUS CASES

MOH said on Saturday further epidemiological investigations and contact tracing have uncovered links between previously announced and new cases. This was made possible with the assistance of the Singapore Police Force, it added.

Fourteen of the confirmed cases (Cases 93, 95, 97, 98, 99, 100, 101, 102, 103, 104, 105, 106, 108 and 110) are linked to Wizlearn Technologies at Science Park.
