Covid-19: 8 new cases in Singapore, 4 of them linked to Safra Jurong cluster

SINGAPORE — The Ministry of Health (MOH) on Saturday (March 7) confirmed that eight more people have Covid-19 in Singapore. Four of them are a part of the cluster involving a private dinner function at Safra Jurong on Feb 15.

SINGAPORE — The Ministry of Health (MOH) on Saturday (March 7) confirmed that eight more people have Covid-19 in Singapore. Four of them are a part of the cluster involving a private dinner function at Safra Jurong on Feb 15.

This brings the number of confirmed cases from the Safra Jurong cluster to 21. 

Of the other four new cases, one of them is linked to the cluster at The Life Church and Missions Singapore in Paya Lebar. Two are likely to be imported cases, and one is not linked to any of the seven known clusters here, MOH said.

In its statement, MOH added that eight more patients have been discharged from the hospital on Saturday.

They included a 39-year-old male Bangladesh national (Case 47) linked to the Seletar Aerospace Heights construction site, a 24-year-old male Singaporean student at the Singapore Institute of Technology (Case 86), a 12-year-old male Singaporean student at Raffles Institution (Case 96), and a 33 year-old Singaporean man (Case 110) linked to the cluster at Wizlearn Technologies in Science Park.

So far, 138 people have contracted the coronavirus, but 90 have fully recovered and have been discharged.

Of the 48 confirmed cases still in hospital, most are stable or improving. Eight are in critical condition under intensive care. 

THE LATEST CASES

Case 131 

  • Case 131 is a 66-year-old male Singaporean with no recent travel history to affected countries and regions.

  • He is warded in an isolation room at Ng Teng Fong General Hospital.

  • He is linked to the Safra Jurong cluster.

  • He reported the onset of symptoms on March 2 and sought treatment at a general practitioner (GP) clinic on the same day, and again on March 5.

  • He went to Ng Teng Fong General Hospital on March 5. Test results confirmed Covid-19 infection on the afternoon of March 6.

  • Before he was warded, he had gone to work as a delivery personnel at Liang Guan Hak Kee (8 Pandan Crescent), and had visited Ayer Rajah Zone 3 Residents’ Committee (32 Teban Gardens Road).

  • He lives in Pandan Gardens.

Case 132

  • Case 132 is a 37-year-old female Singapore permanent resident.

  • She was in London from Feb 23 to 27 and is likely to be an imported case.

  • She is now warded in an isolation room at the National University Hospital (NUH).

  • She reported the onset of symptoms on Feb 29 and had sought treatment at two GP clinics on Feb 29 and March 4 and 5.

  • She went to the emergency department at NUH on March 5. Test results confirmed Covid-19 infection on the afternoon of March 6.

  • Before she was warded, she had visited Camden Medical Centre (1 Orchard Boulevard) for an unrelated condition. 

  • She lives along Tanglin Road.

Case 133

  • Case 133 is a 62-year-old Indonesian woman who is a Singapore social visit pass holder and did not travel recently to affected countries and regions.

  • She is linked to the Safra Jurong cluster.

  • She is now warded in an isolation room at NUH.

  • She reported the onset of symptoms on Feb 29 and had sought treatment at a GP clinic on March 1, and at Pioneer Polyclinic on March 4 and 6. She was referred to the emergency department at NUH on March 6. 

  • Test results confirmed Covid-19 infection on the afternoon of March 6.

  • Before her hospital admission, she had mostly stayed at home on Jurong West Street 61.

Case 134

  • Case 134 is a 56-year-old Singaporean woman who did not travel recently to affected countries and regions, but had been in Malaysia on Feb 21.

  • She is now warded in an isolation room at the National Centre for Infectious Diseases (NCID). 

  • She is linked to the Safra Jurong cluster.

  • She reported the onset of symptoms on Feb 28 and had sought treatment at a GP clinic on March 6, and was referred to NCID on the same day. 

  • Test results confirmed Covid-19 infection on the afternoon of March 6.

  • Before she was admitted to hospital, she had visited various community clubs and residents’ committees. 

  • She lives in the Jurong West Street 71 area.

Case 135

  • Case 135 is a 40-year-old Singaporean man with no recent travel history to affected countries and regions. 

  • He was confirmed to have Covid-19 on the afternoon of March 6 and is now warded in an isolation room at Singapore General Hospital (SGH).

Case 136

  • Case 136 is a 36-year-old Italian man who is a Singapore work pass holder.

  • He recently travelled to the United States from Feb 7 to 22, and to Italy from Feb 23 to 29. 

  • He is likely an imported case.

  • He was confirmed to have Covid-19 on the afternoon of March 6 and is now warded in an isolation room at NCID.

Case 137

  • Case 137 is a 60-year-old Singaporean man who did not travel recently to affected countries and regions. 

  • He was confirmed to have Covid-19 on the afternoon of March 6 and is now warded in an isolation room at NCID. 

  • He is linked to the Safra Jurong cluster.

Case 138

  • Case 138 is a 26-year-old Singaporean man with no recent travel history to affected countries and regions.

  • He was confirmed to have Covid-19 on the afternoon of March 6 and is now warded in an isolation room at NCID. 

  • He is a close contact of Case 66 and family member of Case 83, both of whom had attended a Chinese New Year gathering on Jan 25 at a residence on Mei Hwan Drive.

  • He is linked to the cluster at The Life Church and Missions Singapore.

LINKS BETWEEN PREVIOUS CASES

Further epidemiological investigations and contact tracing have uncovered links between previously announced and new cases. This was made possible with the assistance of the Singapore Police Force.

  • Seven of the locally transmitted confirmed cases (Cases 31, 33, 38, 83, 90, 91 and 138), as well as Cases 8 and 9, are linked to The Life Church and Missions Singapore. These six cases are linked to another 23 confirmed cases (Cases 48, 49, 51, 53, 54, 57, 58, 60, 61, 62, 63, 66, 67, 68, 70, 71, 73, 74, 78, 80, 81, 84, 88) who are linked to the Grace Assembly of God.

  • Nine of the confirmed cases (Cases 19, 20, 21, 24, 25, 27, 28, 34 and 40) are linked to Yong Thai Hang.

  • Three of the confirmed cases (Cases 30, 36 and 39) are linked to the business meeting held at Grand Hyatt Singapore from 20 to 22 January.

  • Five of the confirmed cases (Cases 42, 47, 52, 56 and 69) are linked to the Seletar Aerospace Heights construction site.

  • Fourteen of the confirmed cases (Cases 93, 95, 97, 98, 99, 100, 101, 102, 103, 104, 105, 106, 108 and 110) are linked to Wizlearn Technologies.

  • Twenty-one of the confirmed cases (Cases 94, 96, 107, 112, 114, 115, 116, 117, 118, 120, 121, 122, 125, 127, 128, 129, 130, 131, 133, 134 and 137) are linked to the private dinner function at Safra Jurong on Feb 15.

MOH said that investigations on these clusters are ongoing.

It added that contact tracing is underway for 13 locally transmitted cases to establish any links to previous cases or travel history to affected countries or regions.
