SINGAPORE — CHIJ Secondary School (Toa Payoh) placed its students on home-based learning on Thursday (July 22) after one of them tested positive for Covid-19.

In a letter to parents and guardians on Wednesday, seen by TODAY, the school said that the student contracted the virus from a family member. She was last in school on Monday and was well, the letter said.

The Ministry of Education has confirmed the authenticity of the letter.

The school said it implemented home-based learning on Thursday to allow for “thorough cleaning and disinfecting” of its premises.

Secondary 2 to Secondary 5 students will return to school the day after, while those in Secondary 1 will return next Wednesday.

Students and staff who had been in close contact with the student will be placed on a leave of absence, the school said.

Parents of students identified as close contacts will receive a text message or be contacted directly by the Ministry of Health on the actions required of them.

“Please be assured that all the close contacts are healthy; they are performing a social duty to isolate themselves, as a precaution,” the letter said.

“The school has and will continue to tightly implement safe management measures,” it added.

TODAY has reached out to the school for more information.
